He was member of the editorial board of the journal Praxis (1964-1974), Zagreb, and along with Seyla Benhabib editor-in-chief of the journal Praxis International (Oxford) (1987-1990).

He was 1985-86 guest fellow of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Washington DC.

He was 1985-87 co-president of the International Humanist and Ethical Union, the Hague,

As one of the leading dissidents, together with 7 other professors from the so called Praxis-group, at Tito’s request was expelled by the Government from the University of Belgrade in January 1975 (where he had held junior and senior positions 1957-1974).. After Tito’s death the whole group, including him, founded 1981 The Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, University of Belgrade, whose professor and director he was until retirement..

He was a long-time critic of Slobodan Milosevic, and one of the protagonists of the Serbian democratic revolution against him and his regime 5/6 October 2000.

Since 2005 elected member of the Board of governors of the Radio Broadcast Agency of Serbia.

Member of the Council for Foreign Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Serbia

His publications include 7 books, 4 brochures and about 130 journal articles translated into 14 languages. His selected works (7 books) were paublished in Serbian 2006 in Belgrade.
